If you’re like many people, you’re highly looking forward to getting away for a brief period of time and going on a relaxing and enjoyable vacation.
Or you might be looking forward to enjoying some foods over the holidays.
But, you may worry what this may mean to your fitness plan.
Are you going to throw away all the hard work you’ve put in over the last few months because of one or two weeks off where you are letting go on your diet and workout?
Or, is it possible to maintain your progress and still have that enjoyable vacation that you desire.
Let’s have a look at a few of the main points that you need to keep in mind regarding this issue.
The Problem
The problem with holidays in the first place is that many people do use this as an excuse to cheat on their plan.
Go ahead, INDULGE! You must!
You deserve a break during this time because it is, after all, your holidays.
But that doesn’t mean you completely drop the ball on your exercise and/or diet.
Unfortunately that is exactly what most people do.
The Reason
Often the biggest reason why people struggle with their workout and diet plan during holidays is not even so much a factor of will power, but rather a factor of lack of planning.
If you haven’t planned what foods you can include in your meal plan then you are so much more likely to pick up anything you see and eat it.
Taking chances like these never work in your favour.
The Solution
Think of “holiday foods” as seasoning. What do you do with seasoning? You sprinkle it on top of a good meal right? Or do you fill up your plate with salt and pepper and add a few bits of chicken to taste?
I’m sure you get the point 🙂
Try and follow a good diet for most of the day and indulge in your favourite foods during other times.
If possible, try and squeeze in a workout as well to prevent excess fat gain.
Remember that it’s far easier to maintain your fitness level than it is to make improvements, so if you shift your goal during holidays to maintenance instead, you should find that you are able to stick with the program quite readily.
So there you have the main points to know about holiday dieting and workouts. If you plan ahead and have that game plan in place, you will be able to return from your holidays and pick right back up where you left off.
I have more info later this week in exactly what you can do to tip the scales in your favour a bit more.
But for now…
What’s your plan for the holidays? Let me know…
