Abs Are Made In The Kitchen, Not The Gym
Looking to lose a bit of excess body fat that you’ve packed on over the last few months or years? If so, you’re likely starting to seek out a brand new workout and diet plan to follow to get you there. As you go about this process, one thing that you really want to be paying as close of attention to as possible is the diet element of things.
One big mistake that some people make is thinking that they can just do enough exercise and that alone will allow them to see the results that they desire.
This is not the case however and without a good diet, results will be hard to come by. That’s not to say exercise is not important – it is as there are many health benefits that come with regular exercise and it’s your workouts that help you stay fit and toned, but when it comes to fat loss, diet takes the cake – figuratively speaking.
Diet can easily account for up to 70% of the results you see, so it’s time to give it the attention it deserves. Here are a few reasons why your diet is so critical.
It’s Easier To Create The Calorie Deficit Needed For Fat Burning
The very first thing you need to realize is that it’s far easier to create the calorie deficit you need by making a few changes to your diet rather than adding more exercise.
In order to burn up one pound of body fat in one week, you need to burn up 500 calories more than you consume each day. With a few small food changes, you can easily decrease your daily calorie intake by 500 calories, usually without feeling all that deprived.
But to burn off 500 calories? That’s going to take a lot of extra effort in the gym. You’d have to do at least an hour of exercise more each day – on top of what you are already doing.
Do you have the time to do this? Most people don’t, thus making diet changes is simply easier.
It’s Hard To Out-Exercise A Bad Diet
The second thing to keep in mind is that it’s very difficult to out-exercise a bad diet. This goes hand in hand with the point above.
A big mistake many people make is doing a hard workout in the gym and then fueling up with a bagel and cream cheese afterwards because they ‘earned’ it’.
But, in eating that bagel, they actually take in more calories than they just burned off, basically rendering that workout useless as far as fat loss is concerned.
Diet Provides Nutrients To Keep Your Body Strong
Finally, remember that your diet is where you get the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy and strong. Even if you aren’t gaining weight, if you aren’t eating the right foods, you are not optimizing your health and this will eventually come back to haunt you.
While exercise is healthy as well, it doesn’t provide you with the vitamins and minerals your body needs to keep your brain, organs, and tissues healthy. Only a proper diet will do that.
So there you have the main reasons why you should be focusing on your diet first and foremost if your goal is fat loss. Make sure that you aren’t overlooking these points.
