How To Cook The Perfect Steak
A classic protein source that is a favorite of many, few people would say there’s a better food than a perfectly cooked steak. Steak is a nutrient rich protein source that contains healthy CLA fats if you buy the grass fed variety and will also pack in a good dose of iron to help keep your energy levels up as well.
Steak can be cooked a number of different ways from baked to pan-fried to barbequed, so the options are really endless.
While each person will always have their preference of cooking method, one of the absolute best ways to cook your steak is to gently pan-fry it to lock in the juices and then bake it from there.
Here’s how to do this technique.
How To Cook It
Begin by preheating the oven to 450 degrees F.
Next, sear the steak. Start by taking the steak out of the fridge about 20 minutes prior to cooking so that you can bring it to room temperature. Sprinkle some salt and pepper onto the steak, pressing it in or using a meat tenderizer to really get the flavor into the grains. Feel free to add any other spices or marinades you’d like at this point – a little low sodium soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce will also work great here. Some also like garlic or onion powder, so consider your taste preferences and get a little creative.
From there, add some olive oil into an oven safe skillet and heat over high heat until it just starts to smoke. Next, drop the steaks into the pan so they aren’t touching and let cook for about 3 minutes.
Turn the steak over and cook for another 3 minutes on the next side.
After that, put the steak into the oven and cook until done to your preference.
Other Ways To Cook It
If you don’t have time to bake your steak, you can also do this same method and just continue to pan fry it until it’s finished cooking. Note that if doing this method, you’ll need to add more olive oil to the pan as it cooks to prevent it from drying out.
Alternatively, you can also stir-fry your steaks if preparing a stir-fried dish. To do this, you’ll simply want to marinade the steaks beforehand, allowing them to sit in the fridge after rubbing the marinade in for a few hours to bring out the natural juices.
Then slice the steak into bite sized strips and pan fry in some olive oil and garlic (and whatever other vegetables you want in your stir-fry).
Steak is a highly versatile protein source that can be used in many ways and comes in different cut varieties. Make sure that you educate yourself on the cut of steak you are purchasing as that can also sway the nutritional content in terms of how much fat to protein that steak contains.
